Dear Students: Who are some of your creative role models? Who's
passion and work inspires you in the way they approach what they love to
or need to create?
For me it's my mentor, LeRoy Neiman who I knew for 20 years before he passed away. How he saw the world full of energy and color, his endless sense of curiousity and the way he could share a story as well as listen to mine continues to inspire me. Even though I knew him very well, to create a Creative Biography on him I would expect to use atleast 5 sources as I would expect when you investigate your creative role models for the assignment Creative Biography. Here are the five resources I would use in my research on LeRoy...His own biography (http://www.leroyneiman.com/artist-biography/) on his personal page as I know the words chosen are the ones he approved as its dated in 1996 in the period just after we had met and I knew how the rise of the web was both something he kept on top of but also he had to as people were reselling his work through channels he did not approve. I would reference some of the more prominent reflections of his life and work as documented by some of the most respected media outlets in the US including the New York Times, The Washington Post as well as those who ran more critical pieces on him like The Guardian (see actual references I will use below). Those critical of him were just shaping his path by being part of the suffering many artists must endure on being true to themselves regardless of external judgement.
